  • 1. Budgeting and Financial Planning: The school treasurer plays a vital role in the budgeting process. She works closely with the superintendent and school board to develop a comprehensive budget that aligns with the district's goals and priorities. This includes estimating revenue, projecting expenses, and ensuring financial sustainability.

    2. Financial Reporting: The treasurer is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records and preparing regular financial reports. These reports provide transparency and accountability to the school board and the community regarding the district's financial status.

    3. Payroll and Benefits: The treasurer oversees payroll and benefits administration for district employees, ensuring accurate and timely payments, deductions, and compliance with state and federal regulations.

    4. Accounts Payable and Receivable: The treasurer manages the accounts payable process, ensuring bills and invoices are paid on time and that the district receives payments for services rendered or fees collected from students and other sources.

    5. Investment Management: The treasurer is responsible for managing the district's investments to maximize returns while adhering to legal and ethical investment practices.

    6. Tax Collection and Reporting: School treasurers work closely with county and state agencies to collect property taxes and report financial information to the appropriate authorities.

    7. Grant Management: The treasurer is responsible for managing and reporting on grants received by the district, ensuring compliance with grant requirements.

    8. Financial Audits: Coordinating and participating in financial audits is another crucial responsibility of the school treasurer. These audits help ensure the district's financial practices are sound and in compliance with relevant laws and regulations.

    9. Risk Management: School treasurers work on risk management, including the acquisition and management of insurance policies and ensuring the district is adequately protected against potential financial risks.

    10. Long-Term Financial Planning: The treasurer develops long-term financial plans and strategies to ensure the district's fiscal sustainability and ability to meet future educational needs.

    11. Compliance: School treasurers must ensure that all financial transactions and practices comply with federal, state, and local laws and regulations, including those specific to Ohio's school finance system.

    12. Communication: Effective communication with the school board, superintendent, and other stakeholders is essential, as treasurers need to provide financial updates and recommendations to support informed decision-making.
